A joint military-police operation has led to the arrest of 191 persons suspected to be in connection with last week’s attack and subsequent burning of the Ehi Police Station in the Volta Region.
The Public Relations Officer of the Volta Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Francis Gomado, confirmed that the suspects comprise 190 men and one woman.
He said the coordinated operation was launched to apprehend individuals believed to have assaulted police personnel on duty before setting the station ablaze.
Chief Inspector Gomado disclosed that the mob also vandalized two police vehicles and destroyed several valuable items within the facility.
He said all the suspects have been transferred to the Regional Police Headquarters in Ho for screening, after which those found culpable would face prosecution.
He added that the figure could reduce following the screening process, as some individuals may have been inadvertently arrested during the operation.
Chief Inspector Gomado urged the public, particularly the youth, to desist from acts of lawlessness and to support the police in maintaining peace and order.
He emphasized that the police service exists to protect lives and property and that mutual cooperation between the security services and the public remains vital for community safety.
